CEMS - The College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences

Diversity Matters

At UVM, the level of diversity on our campus is a key strength. We firmly believe that the varied composition of our community is critical to the continuing vitality of the University. Therefore, building upon and reinforcing diversity within the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences (CEMS) is a central priority at the undergraduate, graduate and faculty levels.

One of the ways we do this is through WAMMIE, an organization within CEMS that works to recruit and support qualified underrepresented students who want to study engineering in a safe yet rigorous environment

CEMS StudentCEMS has always defined diversity broadly, incorporating varying geographic, intellectual, ethnic, cultural, academic and social elements that make our world a more vibrant place. The College's commitment to a global view of diversity is an important element in ensuring that our teaching remain connected to real-world problems, our research remain relevant and cutting-edge, and our social composition include a variety of voices, thoughts, ideas and opinions.

We strive to ensure that students of color, women and individuals from every cultural and socioeconomic group have the opportunity to realize their aspirations while also contributing their unique ideas, skills, talents and strengths to daily life at CEMS. These groups are integral to the fabric of our College, and programs focusing specifically on pathways to their success contribute to the mission of both the University and the College of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences.
