Having trouble with your Computer Science (CS) homework? Need some computer-related advice? Want to get involved with a project? A new Student Resource Center, "CS Crew," located in Votey 332 is now open to students with resources and projects.
"This is a great way to create relationships with the community and other CS majors," says Jackie Horton, Senior Lecturer in CS. "Non-profit or start-up organizations often contact professors in the UVM Department of Computer Science asking for help with projects. The CS Crew can provide that help, fostering relationships with the community."
CS Crew not only provides the opportunity for students to meet other students but also affords them the chance to look at problems in greater depth. Linking students with community needs allows CS majors to interact with clients and teammates on real world problems.
This initiative was student-driven from conception to full implementation, and is done on a completely voluntary basis. Students can also obtain specific help from upperclassmen and grad students on a volunteer basis, as well as specialties, by visiting the hours posted online as well as outside Votey 332.
