Janet Britt's Buttermilk Falls Organic Farm in Schaghticoke, NY will host a NOFA-NY workshop on Vegetable Pest Identification and Control from 1:00-4:00 PM on Sunday, July 21.  We will tour the diversified crop fields, identify insect and disease problems we may find, and discuss organic control options.  Typical pests of various crops will be covered, even if we don't find them on site.  References for pest ID will be given so that farmers can be prepared to scout their own fields.  Brian Caldwell, NOFA-NY Farm Education Coordinator, will lead the discussions.  Call 607-564-1060 for more information.

Wednesday, August 14, 10:00 AM – 3:00 PM Field Day at Martens Farm, Penn Yan.
This is a must-see open house at one of New York’s outstanding organic grain operations.  Klaas and Mary-Howell Martens grow 1300 acres of organic field crops.  Their excellent practices have spread to many other farms in Yates County and beyond.  Learn about organic weed management and using rotations and soil management to suppress pests.  Researchers on organic farming from around the Northeast will be explaining the science behind the results you will see in the field.  This field day is sponsored by New York Certified Organic (NYCO), the Northeast Organic Network, and NOFA-NY.  Call 607-564-1060 for more information.
