ALL DAY MEETING & A COMMERCIAL MEMBERS DAY
At the Eastern Massachusetts Extension Center, 240 Beaver Street, Waltham MA
*Commercial Members are invited to set up exhibits of their products or services.

 
9:30 am         REGISTRATION
                     There is a $10 registration fee for those who are not members of NEV&BGA.  This does not include lunch.

10:00 am     SPECIALTY CROPS GRANT REPORTS
                   Betty MacKenzie of Red Tomato, Jeff Cole of the Massachusetts Federation of Farmers Markets, and Ruth Hazzard & Frank Mangan, both
                   of the University of Massachusetts.  These groups all received funding from the Specialty Crops Grant awarded to the Association from the
                   Mass. Dept. of Food & Agriculture.  They will report on what was accomplished with the funds.

10:45 am     VEGETABLE VARIETY TRIALS
                    Dr. David Handley, of the University of Maine.  NEV&BGA awarded a research grant to Dr. Handley to conduct vegetable variety trials
                    this year and he will report on the results of his trials.

11:00 am     FENCES DEER, COYOTES, PEOPLE, ETC.
                   David Kennard of Wellscroft Fence Systems.  David is in the fence business and knows all about them.  He will include some case studies
                   in his presentation.

11:30 am     UPDATE ON CUCURBIT DISEASES
                    Dr. Robert Wick of the University of Massachusetts.  Dr. Wick also received a research grant from the Association and will report on his findings.

12:00 pm     LUNCH - RESERVATIONS ONLY!!
                   Chef du Jour John Ayotte will provide us with a sumptuous lunch including banana fritters.  Please phone reservations with your name and number
                   of reservations (or make changes) until noon on Wednesday, January 29th by calling Dom Marini at (508) 378-2546.  The lunch is $12 per person.
                    If you are unable to attend after making reservations, please phone since the Association must pay for all meals reserved.

1:00 pm     BUSINESS MEETING, ELECTIONS, REPORTS

1:30 pm     BIO TECH UPDATE
                  Kimberly Morin of Monsanto Company.  Much progress is being made on bio-tech and Ms. Morin will discuss some of the latest developments.

1:45 pm     PEST MANAGEMENT UPDATE
                  Ruth Hazzard, Dr. Robert Wick and Dr. Richard Bonanno all from the University of Massachusetts will speak on insects, diseases and weeds,
                  respectively.  A review of changes in registration and regulations, new materials and their effectiveness, and changes in recommendations.
