Clair's Country Garden, located in Alburg, Vermont, was created five years ago. We make a variety of pickles, relishes, jams and jellies. The vegetables that are used fo these products are grown in our gardens on the farm.CLAIR'S COUNTRY GARDEN ![]()
Four years ago we brought some of the extra vegetables to the Farmers’ Market in St Albans and we have been a regular vendor ever since with much success. A new Farmers’ Market was started in Alburg three years ago where we also sell our vegetables and our canned goods.
Our gardens have grown to about two acres with a great variety of vegetables. We now plant 6000 onions ranging from very sweet to winter keepers. In early spring we start 300 + pepper plants ranging from sweet to many kinds of hot, as well as a large variety of heirloom, paste and regular tomatoes.
Many kinds of cucumbers, zucchini, carrots, beets, lettuce, peas, green and yellow beans, potatoes, garlic, winter squash and pumpkins are also planted for use in our canning kitchen as well as for the Farmers’ Market. We are also experimenting with different kinds of sunflowers and other cut flowers for the market.
Fall raspberries were planted two years ago for our jams, and we also have Plum tree. We are going to be planting a variety of different fruit trees this coming season for our jams.
We now have several stores selling our pickles and jams and are selling some of our vegetables to a restaurant. We hope to expand to more restaurants this coming season.
Last year my daughter, sister and some friends helped us in the garden and in the canning kitchen. Even some of the grandchildren were able to help plant and harvest the vegetables and also help with the market. We are looking forward to an exciting new season with more vegetable varieties to share with our customers.
We look forward to seeing you at the Farmers’ Markets on Saturdays and invite you to visit our farm this coming summer.
