The University recognizes the importance of volunteerism and values the time its employees spend in service to UVM and surrounding communities. Work performed to support the University's mission and enhance community relations is greatly valued. All members of our University Community are encouraged to pursue activities that benefit the University as well as our greater Vermont community.
"We recognize several different types of volunteer service:
UVM committees, governance groups such as Staff Council, Traffic Appeals Board, Board of Trustees, etc.
Professional Service such as non-partisan service to the community, or one's professional organization, that is directly related to your job at UVM and your expertise in your job.
Community - Volunteer. Service to the community that is not directly related to your job such as blood donor, volunteering at schools or non-profit organizations, etc.
Supervisors are encouraged to provide reasonable, paid release time for employees to serve in ways outlined in # 1 and #2. Flexibility in scheduling is also encouraged for service in the third category. Volunteerism should be encouraged and supported at all levels."
