Job Overview

Provide oversight and perform crop and equipment management functions in support of University farm operations.

Typical Functions

Provide oversight and perform crop and equipment management functions in support of University farm operations; use judgment in prioritizing workflow and in applying work methods and operational processes; develop and implement operational strategies to ensure maximum utilization and cost- effectiveness; maintain facility inventory and equipment and make recommendations for improvements.

Oversee and perform crop planting and harvesting; determine quantity and type of crops to meet specific feed goals; perform activities specific to animal nutrition, feeding, and turnout.

Develop schedules for machinery and equipment utilization and maintenance; facilitate equipment purchases and maintain related documentation and records; use desktop applications.

Maintain farm property; perform general repairs to fencing and buildings.

Operate heavy equipment and University vehicles including harvesting equipment, bucket loader, truck, truck/trailer, tractor, mower, and plow.

Participate in area safety training.

Provide administrative supervision to University staff and/or functional supervision to designated employees and/or affiliates.

Distinct Functions

Perform duties specific to work area. Examples may include operate CDL-required vehicles.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience equivalent to: High school diploma and four years' related experience required. Valid driver's license and Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or ability to obtain both and driver's check required. Lifting of up to 50 lbs. occasionally. Specific physical requirements may apply based on job functions. Initial and continued employment dependent on satisfactory results of alcohol and drug testing.
