Brett’s current research is focused on integrated modelling, assessment, decision analysis and policy design for multiple objective natural resource management.
Brett has recently completed three major research projects since moving to CLW from the University of Adelaide.

A project with the MDBC involved quantifying and valuing changes in agricultural use of land and water resources in the Murray-Darling Basin from 1996/97 to 2000/01. This research has provided important baseline information on basin scale agricultural land and water use dynamics and has been used by several agencies including the MDBC’s ICM program.

A project with DWLBC and CSIRO’s Water for a Healthy Country involved developing the concept of systematic regional planning for multiple objective NRM in the SA River Murray Corridor. The techniques developed in this research are being expanded to the entire lower Murray region to assess the ability of market based mechanisms such as biomass industries and carbon trading for providing incentives for achieving regional NRM targets.

Finally, as part of the national MBI program Brett has led the development of Catchment Care, a tendering-based system for the cost effective distribution of NRM funds for on-ground works, with the Onkaparinga Catchment Water Management Board. An expanded version of Catchment Care is currently being rolled out by the board.
