Abstract: Carbon sequestration is one of the most important services of wetland ecosystem. It took Fuyuan County as a case study area which located in northeast of Sanjiang Plain. The areas of marsh shrank and the areas of paddy fields expanded compared that of in 1982 to 2005 in Fuyan County. The distribution of marsh patches converged and that of paddy fields scattered based on class level with split landscape pattern index. The objective of this study is to quantify the values of carbon sequestration in carbon equivalents of every patch of marsh and paddy fields in Fuyan County in 1982 and 2005, and compared them based on patches level with GIS spatial analysis.

In our study, we obtained the carbon sequestration values based on comparable price of every patch of marsh and paddy fields respectively with biomass, carbon sequestration in carbon equivalents and values model. There was no pertinence between patch shape index and carbon sequestration values based on patches of marsh and paddy fields. By patches values spatial distribution map, it could be seen obviously that the maximum values patches of marsh disappeared compared that of in 1982 to 2005. By values classification, the higher values patches of marsh also disappeared and the higher values patches of paddy fields appeared compared that of in 1982 to 2005. The sum value of marsh was 89765.38 ×104 RMB in 1982 and then decreased up to 47893.46 ×104 RMB in 2005. The sum value of paddy fields was 397.40 ×104 RMB in 1982 and then rapidly increased up to 28872.93 ×104 RMB in 2005. The sum value of marsh was always more than that of paddy fields. The sum value of marsh in 1982 was 0.8 times as much as regional gross product in Fuyuan County. The results could be reference for the harmony of land use and the maintenance of their carbon sequestration service.
