Abstract: The studies on the evaluation of ecosystem services are one of major ongoing researches on ecology today. Relative to the maturation of estimation researches for Chinese forest ecosystem services, the studies on Chinese lake ecosystem services are insufficiency. This paper attempted to estimate the Hubei Lake ecosystem services based on ecological function analysis and some economic methods, and stressed on the main serve functions of Hubei Lakes and their changes in Hubei’s history.

Based on the Hubei lakes change atlas(1950-1980), 2000 satellite photos and 2000 DEM photos of NASA and other maps, We completed the digitization and the GIS modeling work of Hubei lakes change. The results showed that the areas of lakes greater than 10 km2 reduced from 5683.0 km2 in 1950s to 1649.5 km2, the net reduction area of which was 4033.5 km2, accounting for 85.76% of the total reduction area. But the areas of lakes less than 1 km2 increased from 231.1 km2 in 1950s to 246.2 km2. Obviously, the increasing had not any effect on the decreasing trend of the total area of Hubei lakes.

The evaluation of Hubei Lakes ecosystem services indicated that the value of water supply accounted for more than 80% of direct value of Hubei lakes ecosystem services in 1950s. But in 2000 the value of organic matter production accounted for 84.4% of the direct value. The output of aquatic product had grown by 183 times comparing with 1950s. Converting prices in every period to 2000 price, The value of aquatic products was 11.1 times of 1980s, and 3.55 times of 1990s, being the quickest-increasing service value.
