Although Ukraine is only 15% forested and ranks as one of least forested countries in Europe, it is also the second largest country in Europe, after Russia. Consequently, Ukraine has approximately 10 million hectares of productive forest area, which is significant in the European context and, in terms of forest area, is eighth out of forty countries in Europe.
