Education

My Ph.D. in Physics focused on neural network architectures for classifying patterns in spatial data. My Master's degree focused on chaos theory and nonlinear dynamics. Techniques which I have developed as a grad student have been well referenced in basic text books on pattern recognition (i.e. "Adaptive Pattern Recognition and Neural Networks" by Yoh-han Pao) and have been utilized by several research labs (i.e. NASA, Ames and SAIC, Tucson) in cutting-edge research in invariant pattern recognition. One of the applications that I developed as a consultant for TRW in 1991 used a massively parallel neural network simulated on a Connection Machine to successfully identify and classify cloud patterns in AVHRR images.
