Education
- B.S. (1979) University of Maryland, Physics.
- M.S. (1983) University of Maryland, Physics.
- Ph.D. (1988) University of Maryland, Physics.
My Ph.D. in Physics focused on neural network architectures for classifying patterns in spatial data.
My Master's degree focused on chaos theory and nonlinear dynamics.
Techniques which I have developed as a grad student have been well referenced
in basic text books on pattern recognition (i.e. "Adaptive Pattern
Recognition and Neural Networks" by Yoh-han Pao) and have been
utilized by several research labs (i.e. NASA, Ames and SAIC, Tucson) in
cutting-edge research in invariant pattern recognition. One of the
applications that I developed as a consultant for TRW in 1991 used a massively
parallel neural network simulated on a Connection Machine to successfully
identify and classify cloud patterns in AVHRR images.
