We are thrilled you are interested in helping to envision a sustainable and desirable future. We are still trying to decide on the best way to develop both this vision and the ESDA network. Right now there are several ways you can join in the effort:

  1. Take part in the discussion board. This only went on line on August 27, 2001, and still has very little content. Make a contribution. What comments on the existing vision do you want to share? Are there activities or actions related to the vision or the envisioning process for which you want to solicit support? Post a message, or respond to others. We need your ideas and feedback to make this work, and the discussion board is a good place to share them.

  2. Get involved with planning. Our next project will probably be a second ESDA conference, where we will take the vision a step further. We will be starting from scratch– getting funding, inviting participants, setting a date. All we have now is the enthusiasm of the group and an offer from one of the participants in the first conference to host us in Miami. What role can you play? When we are ready to move forward, we will need to brainstorm extensively about how to fund it, who to invite, how to contact them, and how to convince them to attend. If you think you can contribute to this process, then all we ask is that you send us an e-mail with "subscribe" as the subject. This will not put you on a list serve, but just give us your address to involve you in the process when it begins. You will not be bombarded by unwanted e-mails.

  3. Read the our draft version of the vision so far, then read people's descriptions of what it would be like to live in a sustainable and desirable America in 2100. Write your own version of what you think it would be like to live in this world. Let your vision reflect your interests, profession, hobbies, etc., Eventually we plan to compile these descriptions into a book for publication. In the meantime, we will post them on the Web.

  4. Think of your own positive vision of what you want for the future, one that will appeal to others as well. Once you’ve figured out where you want to get to, then start thinking about how to get there. Share your thoughts with others, through our discussion board and elsewhere.

  5. Tell your friends, about the need for a vision, a goal to strive towards, if we are to bring about a sustainable and desirable future. Tell them about this site if you think they’d be interested.
