Abdon L. Schmitt F. is an agroecologist and a professor at University of Santa Catarina-UFSC, Brazil. His teaching and research efforts focus on designing agroecological systems that interconnect ecosystems restoration, rural livelihood and renewable agriculture in Southern Brazil.
He is coordinator of Voisin Silvopastoral Group – a Participatory Research Action Project from the University of Santa Catarina. This outreach project has worked with more than 622 farmers to make the transition from conventional farming to pasture based and silvopastoral system. Today, these farmers are partners in a pilot project to make viable ecological restoration of Atlantic Forest through ecodesign, agroecology, Voisin Silvopastoralism and PES.
Abdon holds a degree in Agronomy from University of Santa Catarina in Brazil, and MSc and PhD in Pasture Ecology and Management at Plant and Soil Science Department - University of Vermont USA. His research addresses agroecology, Voisin silvopastoral systems, sustainable livelihoods, and ecological restoration of Atlantic Forest.
