Matthew was born and raised in Fresno, CA, a large agricultural city in central California. Matthew earned a BS in Ecology from UC Davis. While a student at UC Davis, he studied abroad in Kenya, focusing on Ecology and Human/Wildlife conflict issues. Prior to coming to UVM Matthew spent two years with the Peace Corps in Romania, working with a dairy modernization program for central Romania. During his time in Romania he worked on Farmer Education programs, modernization of a model dairy, and community development.
