Gund Institute History

Thanks to the generous support of the Gund Family, the Gund Institute for Ecological Economics was established at the University of Vermont in 2002. The Gund Institute is currently housed in the historic Johnson House, and is part of UVM's Rubenstein School of Environment and Natural Resources. The Gund Institute represents UVM's commitment to using transdisciplinary approaches to solve real-world problems. Working together, scholars, students, and practitioners study the interactions between people and nature, develop creative, practical solutions to local and global environmental challenges, and train future leaders.

The Gund Institute is a community comprising diverse faculty, students, and collaborators across Vermont and around the world. We are researchers, educators, and practitioners collaborating in transdisciplinary scholarship.
