Hyde Park--A school vacation day camp for Lamoille County kids that's chock-a-block with hands-on science experiments, team-building exercises and other fun activities is planned for April 17-19 in Hyde Park.
The Science and Leadership Camp, open to anyone in Grades 5-8, will be held at the Lamoille Union Middle School on Route 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily. It's sponsored by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension and the Lamoille County 4-H program.
Youths will spend each morning conducting a variety of science experiments, including making balloon cars and other inventions, mostly working in groups. Afternoons are devoted to building a LEGO NXT robot and learning how to program it to complete a course. They also will participate in leadership activities and cooperative games.
Campers should plan to bring a bag lunch and water each day and dress appropriately for the weather as some of the activities will take place outside. Snacks and all project supplies will be provided.
Only 20 spots are available. Registrations will be accepted until April 3 or the camp fills up.
Registration is $25 per person although the fee will be waived for kids with a parent or guardian in the military. Scholarships are available for non-military youths.
For information about the camp or to reserve a space, call Lindsay Jones, UVM Extension 4-H educator, at (802) 888-4972, ext. 409, or e-mail her at email@example.com. If requiring a disability-related accommodation to participate, please call by April 9.
