Orleans--The Northeast Regional 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl, March 4 in Orleans, saw a good turnout of 4-H club members eager to test their dairy knowledge.

A total of 37 4-H'ers from Caledonia, Essex, Lamoille and Orleans Counties participated, competing against other kids in their age group for ribbons. The event helps them prepare for the State 4-H Dairy Quiz Bowl, which will be hosted by University of Vermont (UVM) Extension, March 16 at Vermont Technical College in Randolph Center.

The competition, held at Orleans Elementary School in Orleans, consisted of two parts, a written exam and three quiz bowl rounds of 20 questions each per group plus tiebreakers as needed. Questions focused on dairy breeds, anatomy, animal health, the dairy industry, feeds and other dairy topics.

Winners, by age group and in order of placement, were:

Seniors (14 and older): Maggie Kirby, East Montpelier; Shelby Biasini, Morrisville; Kyle Letourneau, East Charleston; Miquelle Thurber, East Montpelier.

Juniors (12 and 13): Maddie Nadeau, Holland; Hattie Moriarty, Stowe; Chris Girard, Lunenburg; Todd Howard, Greensboro Bend.

Juniors (10 and 11): Isabel Hall, East Montpelier; Makayla Kinney, Derby; Lucy Kelley, Morrisville; Ryanne Nadeau, Derby Line. 

Participation ribbons were awarded to Adele Biasini,  Morrisville; Averie Brown, East Montpelier; Brookelyn Dennis, Ryegate; Hunter Michaud, East Hardwick; Emma Nadeau, Holland; DJ Nelson, Ryegate; Mackayla O'Meara, Irasburg; Justin Thurber, East Montpelier; and Julia Paul, Hailey Pothier and Isiak Pothier, all of Derby;.

Juniors (8 and 9): Caroline Kirby, East Montpelier; Sadie Ellner, Morrisville; Cora Nadeau, Holland; Cameron Dennis, Ryegate. Those receiving a participation ribbon were Charlie Haynes, East Montpelier; Aleah Nelson, Ryegate; Lincoln Michaud, East Hardwick; Alan Laplume, Morgan; Cody Trudeau, Hardwick.

Several Cloverbuds, ages 5 to 7, also participated but were not eligible to compete for placements. They included Katie Leitch, Derby Line; Liviya Russo, Lunenburg; and Gabriel Michaud, Haley Michaud and Natalie Michaud, all of East Hardwick.
