Direct Market Pricing Clinics Planned for Vermont Farmers

Burlington--Two free one-day clinics, offered this October through the University of Vermont (UVM) Extension New Farmer Project, will provide hands-on opportunities for farmers to learn about various cost-based pricing techniques using their own production and financial data.

The clinics, part of the Vermont Direct Market Price Survey Project, will run from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Oct. 23 at Vermont College in Montpelier or Oct. 25 at the Vermont Tech Enterprise Center in Randolph. Interested farmers may attend either session to explore market placement and promotion considerations related to the price points they want to achieve. Follow-up mentoring and technical assistance will be available.

Although there is no fee to participate, preregistration is required by Oct. 17 as space is limited. Register at http://www.uvm.edu/farmpricing/sign-2012-pricing-clinics. To request a disability-related accommodation to participate, please contact Jessie Schmidt at (802) 223-2389, ext.203, or (866) 860-1382 (toll-free in Vermont) by Oct. 10.

Prior to attending one of the clinics, farmers who have not previously attended an introductory pricing workshop should view the UVM Extension New Farmer Project's "Pricing for Profit" webinar. A link to the recorded session may be found at www.uvm.edu/farmpricing/webinars-clinics.

The Vermont Direct Market Price Survey Project is an initiative of UVM Extension in partnership with the Vermont Vegetable and Berry Growers Association, the Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont and the Vermont Farmers' Market Association. The goals of the project are to provide education about farm pricing strategies and allow farmers to share information about what they charge for farm products at farm stands, farmers' markets and other direct markets to help them set prices that are fair to consumers while supporting sustainability and farm profitability.
