A group of high school students learned about the qualities of porous pavement in a lab setting as part of the Summer Transportation Institute, a partnership of UVM's Transportation Research Center (TRC) and the Upward Bound Program, funded by a US Department of Education grant and the Vermont Agency of Transportation.

Students take engineering challenge

The challenge was this: design and build an arch out of sand and water. This good-natured competition came on the third day of the UVM Engineering Institute, which draws international and American secondary school students for a week's worth of engineering activities and lectures.
