Complex STELLA Models and Berkeley Madonna

James P. Hoffmann

During my part of this short course I will introduce you to some more complex STELLA models, some features in STELLA that are useful in organizing complex STELLA models, and a comparable software package, known as Berkeley Madonna, that when used in concert with STELLA, extends your ability to work with more complex and computationally-intensive dynamic models. Specifically, here is what I will cover today:

·       A detailed look at a complex STELLA model: Phosphorus dynamics of the LaPlatte River, Shelburne, VT

-         The LaPlatte River

-         Overview of the modules of this model, Input and Output Sector, P Integration Module

-         How sectors and ghosts are used in the model

-         Demonstration of running the model

·       STELLA plus Berkeley Madonna

-         Overview of Berkeley Madonna

-         Comparison of Berkeley Madonna to STELLA

·       Demonstration of Berkeley Madonna

-         Importing a STELLA model into Berkeley Madonna

-         Using some of Berkeley Madonna’s features to explore model behavior

·        Concluding Remarks
