C-AFSS is a mysterious condition that seems to befall a majority of the domesticated feline population of the civilized world. It is not as well-documented in the wild, or among feral cats in particular, although there is abundant pictorial evidence from Africa that the condition occurs on the savannah.
It is very old; images of cats with this syndrome appear in art older than the Egyptian Pyramids. It occurs pandemically, and has been observed and documented wherever and for as long as cats have been tolerating co-existence with mankind.
Little is known of its causes: no set time or trigger for its onset or speed of development has been distinguished, and effective treatments are similarly indeterminate. Likewise there is no clear factor(biological, psychological, or paranormal) to determine which cats will be affected when, nor to what level of severity.
It affects a majority of the feline species, leaving broad latitude for speculation over its origins. Much quantitative and qualitative research will be required to finally determine if it springs from genetic causes or if environmental exposure begins the syndrome. Fringe groups have claimed interstellar influences/origins but have so far produced little hard fact to back their claims.
