The University of Vermont today debuted its new strategic plan: Green, Gold, and Bold – Green Mountains, Gold Standard, Bold Future, which lays out an updated mission and vision for the university, as well as four pillars encompassing the most vital areas of the institution’s work. The UVM Board of Trustees unanimously approved the plan at its annual winter meeting on Saturday, February 7.

The strategic plan is the result of months of collaboration by over 1,000 members of the UVM community, guided by a Strategic Planning Committee that held more than 50 listening sessions with faculty, students, and staff since its inception in September.

“Our plan will guide us to serve our students, advance our research, fulfill our land-grant mission, and to improve our infrastructure. It challenges us to focus on bold, innovative thinking, driven by our desire for pathbreaking discovery and Our Common Ground values,” said UVM President Marlene Tromp in a message to the campus community.

The four guiding pillars of the plan are:

  • Forge Bold Futures: Student Connection, Purpose, and Impact
  • Study What Matters: Values-Driven Learning, Research, and Practice
  • Create Opportunity: Access, Engagement, and Partnerships
  • Enable Excellence: Campus Community, Systems, and Infrastructure

With these pillars in mind, leaders from across the campus will begin work to build strategic alignment plans to put the elements of the plan into action.
