Boston Bruins goalie Tim Thomas was honored by the University of Vermont Alumni Association Saturday, September 3, with the 2011 Alumni Achievement Award from the University of Vermont Alumni Association.

Thomas, a member of the UVM Class of 1997, led the Bruins to the 2011 Stanley Cup Championship and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the playoffs MVP. He is only the second goaltender in NHL history to win the Stanley Cup, Conn Smythe, and Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goalie in the same season.

As a member of the UVM Catamounts he compiled a school record 81 career wins, helping Vermont make back-to-back trips to the NCAA tournament, including its first appearance in the Frozen Four in 1996.

A. John Bramley, UVM’s interim president, presented Thomas with a citation for his career accomplishments as a collegiate and professional athlete and his stature as “an iconic hero of American sport.”

Diane B. Greene, class of 1976, Executive Vice President of EMC Corp. and co-founder of EMC subsidiary VMware Inc.

Bruce Philip Rockowitz, class of 1980, Group President and Chief Executive Officer of Li & Fung Limited, based in Hong Kong, the world’s leading global supply chain manager.

Martin St. Louis, class of 1997, right wing for the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning and MVP of its Stanley Cup Championship team in 2004. St. Louis ranks first among University of Vermont scorers in career points and assists.

The Alumni Achievement Award has been awarded since 1985 to alumni of the University of Vermont for outstanding achievement that has been recognized at the local, state, and/or national level.
