Section Description
The VERMONT PUBLIC ADVANCED PRODUCTION INTERNSHIP is a 20-hours-per-week PAID production internship with Vermont Public, our local NPR news radio station. It is open to two students each semester BY COMPETITIVE APPLICATION, and it is designed for students with previous experience in journalism and audio production. The Vermont Public Advanced Production Interns support the production of daily news and podcasts at Vermont Public. They work with the Vermont Public newsroom, Brave Little State, and Vermont Edition as producers. Their work includes pitching story ideas, field reporting, producing spot and feature stories, producing podcast and daily show segments, booking interviews, logging and cutting tape, researching and fact checking, writing and publishing web pieces, producing social media content, and more. Visit the section URL above to find the application and learn more about this internship. NOTE: This is the for-credit version of this internship course. If you would like to enroll in the not-for-credit version, see SINT 2991 J Int: Vermont Public Internship (CRN 61955)
Section Expectation
While interns receive course credit, this internship is run like a job, not like a class. Interns are responsible for setting their schedule and deciding on their projects in conjunction with their Vermont Public teams. Interns are expected to work 10-20 hours a week at the Vermont Public station in Colchester, meet deadlines, ask for help when they need it, and be an invaluable part of their Vermont Public teams. This is a PAID internship for students ready to step up and work as a producer in an award-winning newsroom.
Evaluation
Interns will set goals at the beginning of their internship with the instructor and their Vermont Public team, and be evaluated on how well they meet those goals.
