Section Description
Uses persuasion theory to develop a resume, cover letter, and professional philosophy statement that reflects an individual's unique professional brand.
Section Expectation
This course will help students describe and design their professional brand— the professional branding statement communicates the essence of who one is in the workplace. It reflects professional reputation— what one is known for (or would like to be known for). Students will learn how to use strategic marketing and personal branding techniques for designing, enhancing, and promoting their professional image. Specifically, students will develop a professional brand statement, cover letter, resume, and “elevator speech”.
Evaluation
This course is 100% online and assumes that you are using a computer to complete the tasks. It will use online modules in Brightspace that will be completed over the course of 4 weeks. Students are expected to read, view, and/or listen to all assigned media including readings, videos, and podcasts posted within the Brightspace modules. The assignments in this class consist of two components: Module Participation & Professional Portfolio. Module Participation – 40 points maximum Module instructions are posted in the “Module” folder on Brightspace. Full points will be given to students who participate in each component of the module including writing and responding to discussion posts. Professional Portfolio – 60 points maximum This includes the Professional Brand Statement, Elevator Speech Recording, and the Job/Internship Application. Full points will be given to students who complete each component of the assignments, and the assignment details and rubrics will be posted in the “Assignment” folder on Brightspace.
