An opportunity for First-Year students to develop skills of critical reflection and dialogue through the examination of several environmental issues, and to build strong working relationships with peers and faculty. Includes nuanced, personal conversations in small and large groups, and will consider disparate viewpoints and experiences. Pre/Co-requisites: RSENR First-Year student standing.

Section Description

We are experiencing a great deal of polarization around nearly every major topic in the news today. The skills and capacities necessary to engage in constructive conversations that can help us understand the perspectives of people with differing perspectives and worldviews, and to engage with one another in nuanced, compassionate, and productive ways are of vital importance. An opportunity for students to develop skills of critical reflection and dialogue through the examination of several environmental issues, and to build strong working relationships with peers and faculty. Includes nuanced, personal conversations in small and large groups, and will consider disparate viewpoints and experiences. You must co-register for NR1060 summer course.

Section Expectation

This course is structured as a two day intensive course, meeting for full days online on two consecutive days. There are no required textbooks. There will be a few readings and assignments that need to be completed outside of the meeting times.

Evaluation

Grading will be based on attendance and participation, as well as some assigned reflections integrating readings and personal experiences on the topics.
