Section Description

In this final book club session of the summer, I invite you to join bell hooks and fellow educators in “imagine[ing] ways that teaching and the learning experience could be different” (hooks, p. 5) Throughout this session we will interrogate our own pedagogical practices and consider our own classroom contexts in light of the following questions: What does it look like when we privilege learning over compliance? How do we create schooling experiences that promote sheer joy in both students and educators?

Section Expectation

Weekly reading of ~50 pages Weekly discussion posts and responses to peers A final project applying your learning from the text and discussions (project options will be provided in week 1) After the registration period ends, I will reach out to enrolled students to gauge interest and availability in a synchronous discussion session. This may be in lieu of one week of online posting.
