Notes

Book for discussion: Teaching on Days After by Alyssa Hadley Dunn. Book divided into 4 reading segments, students read & reflect on one segment each week. Optional synchronous group discussions, times TBD.

Section Description

This virtual educator book group is for educators across all levels of schooling. In this first session we will be reading and discussing the book "Teaching on Days After: Educating for Equity in the Wake of Injustice" by Alyssa Hadley Dunn As educators, at all levels of schooling, we are constantly faced with engaging learners across virtual and in-person classrooms on the days after major events. How we choose to approach these days after can have lasting impacts on our students and us as educators. Many of us can picture our own day after experiences as students, remembering what was discussed or silenced, and how that made us feel. Through a study of this text, we will explore the concept of Days After Pedagogy as a way to support us in approaching these "ultimate teachable moments".

Section Expectation

Weekly reading of ~50 pages Weekly discussion posts and responses to peers A final project applying your learning from the text and discussions (project options will be provided in week 1) After the registration period ends, I will reach out to enrolled students to gauge interest and availability in a synchronous discussion session. This may be in lieu of one week of online posting.
