Section Description

This course is the second of a three-part sequence in “Research and Design” that will culminate in the capstone research project by graduates of the MMLS program. This second course in the sequence will provide students with a foundation in how to: critically evaluate the primary literature, peer review, and instruction on how to go about developing and writing a capstone project proposal. Examination and critical evaluation of student writing with respect to clarity and professional communication through the written form will be evaluated. The course is designed around several types of instructional methods: (1) Reading assignments and classroom discussion; (2) Questions and practice-writing exercises based on primary literature; and (3) Student-led workshops on their own writing for their capstone project proposal. Primary articles and other reading materials provided will supplement class sessions and discussion. Students will work in conjunction with their capstone mentors to develop their research question and project proposal. The course will often use a writing “workshop” style of meeting and active participation by students in all classroom exercises is expected.
