About GRNS 6110 Z1

Faculty guide students in clinical settings to maximize exposure to all aspects of the nursing process with children having selected pathophysiological problems. Prerequisite: GRNS 5320. Pre/co-requisites: GRNS 6070, GRNS 6140, GRNS 6150.

Section Description

Students will engage in the nursing care of children in an acute inpatient setting. They will work within an interdisciplinary team to deliver safe, evidence-based, and developmentally appropriate nursing care to pediatric patients with alterations in their health.

Section Expectation

Upon completion of this course, the learner will be able to: 1. Provide safe, effective, and culturally appropriate nursing care to the hospitalized and/or school age child and family unit. 2. Develop, implement, and evaluate nursing care plans for children that reflect knowledge from coursework and current research literature related to the nursing care continuum. 3. Collaborate with other health-care providers, interdisciplinary team members, and the family to promote coordinated service delivery. 4. Communicate effectively with the child, family, and others who participate in the care and education of the child and family. 5. Apply the ANA Standards of Clinical Nursing Practice to nursing care of children and adolescents and their families.

Evaluation

Grading is based on attendance, participation, and weekly clinical assignments.
