National Student Employment Week

Celebrate our UVM Student Employees the second full week of April each year.

"Every year, the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) declares the second full week in April to be National Student Employment Week. It was established to increase public awareness and to recognize students who work while attending college. It is also a time to recognize supervisors that oversee the student experience by providing training and development that prepare students for their careers." - NSEA

How are students nominated?

UVM recognizes a Student Employee of the year for their outstanding contributions and achievements as part of National Student Employment Week. Supervisors may nominate a student employee using an online nomination form, which is sent out some time in March.

Student employees are nominated by their employers based on the following characteristics:

  • service excellence
  • innovation and achievement
  • diversity and respect
  • teamwork and cooperation
  • leadership and initiative

To be eligible for the award a student must:

  • Have worked (or is currently working) during current academic year
  • Work 3 hours/week or more

The nominator of the student employee winner will be notified the week prior to National Student Employment Week, and will be asked to keep this a surprise for the student. The SEO will work with you to schedule a time that the student is at work or could come to your department during National Student Employment Week, where the SEO will present the award to the student. We encourage you to invite as many staff and/or faculty to the celebration as possible since this is a very special form of recognition for the student.
