The daily collection of recycling and trash in all buildings is included with basic Custodial Services. Additional services such as delivery of wheeled carts for office cleanouts, pickup of overflow or extra trash, and extra recycling pikcups must be requested through FAMIS Self-Service.

UVM Recycling picks up surplus items, furniture and equipment from offices and departments through special request. Once we receive your request, we will schedule our crew to pick up your items and determine whether they are suitable for resale, scrap, recycling or disposal. Departments are charged a fee for this service. Please submit a FAMIS Self-Service Request to get started.

Appliances, Laboratory Equipment and Movable Equipment

If disposing of lab equipment, departments must also complete a Surplus Disposal Form (PDF) for each lab appliance or piece of laboratory/movable equipment. This form is not required for furniture and computer equipment. 

1. Complete the surplus disposal form online.
2. Print one copy and attach to each item you wish to dispose of.
3. Email signed copy to UVM Recycling.

Computers and Electronics Waste (E-Waste)

Departments are required to remove all data and software from their computers prior to pickup. Please follow the Hard Drive Destruction program from Enterprise Technology Services (ETS) on how to sufficiently erase your computer hard drive.

Vehicles, Trailers and Licensed Equipment

Departments must refer to the Surplus Property and Movable Equipment Policy (PDF) for disposition of all University vehicles and equipment. Use this Vehicle Disposal Checklist (PDF) as a guide. 

We provide limited moving services on campus. For larger jobs we coordinate with outside contractors. Submit a FAMIS Self-Service Request to get the process started and we will contact you to discuss the details of your move. 

New to UVM or have moved offices? Request a desk-side recycling bin by emailing recycle@uvm.edu with your specific office location and building name.

Is there a need for additional recycling and trash capacity in your area? Contact us to audit your space and provide the necessary containers. 

We provide education and outreach about zero waste strategies to the university community. Email Corey Berman, Program Manager for a tour, guest lecture, or class project ideas.

We sell used furniture and equipment at the Wheelock Barn every Tuesday from Noon - 1pm.
