Join the UVM Libraries and Center for Community News (CCN) for a panel discussion on local democracy and civic information. Moderated by the Director of the CCN Richard Watts, the panel will consider how, in recent years, Vermonters, like the rest of the nation, have started tuning into more polarized media sources. UVM expert panelists include Minh Ly, associate professor of political science, Meg Little Reilly, managing director of the CCN, and Daisy Benson, interim director of information and instruction services at UVM Libraries. Panelists will explore the implications of this shifting interest on our local democracy and will welcome conversation from attendees.
"It is great to be a part of this conversation about democracy and journalism, particularly on the eve of town meeting day," said Watts. "This historic day is when many Vermonters engage in our 200-year form of direct democracy. Vermont has been a leader in civic engagement for centuries and the panel will question how we maintain that role among the challenges that our democracy faces."
The panel, happening on March 3 at 4 p.m., will be hosted in the Howe Library Atrium (near the media desk) and will be livestreamed for those who cannot attend in person. Refreshments will be provided. Please learn more and RSVP (RSVPs encouraged for setup, but not required. Please drop in!).
