“What she brings to the song is deep fluency in the downhome ornaments and idioms of country, blues and gospel…” --- NPR
We first read about Miko Marks in a New York Times article in which she said, “What’s important is my people, my ancestors, racial and social injustice going on. I used to be scared to even talk about it and now I’m finding freedom in the music, and it’ll resonate with who it resonates with.” A prolific songwriter and extraordinary singer, Marks stands as a powerful embodiment of the underrepresented voices of Black women in country/Americana music specifically and a strong reminder of where this music is rooted. With powerful writing and distinctive vocals in styles ranging from country, blues, soul, and American roots, her music packs a wallop. We are excited to introduce this iconoclastic musician to our audience.
