Daniel Kahn was last here with his klezmer band, The Painted Bird, in 2018. This show focuses on more intimate music, performed in Yiddish, German (with supertitles), and English. He’ll be touring with the marvelous violinist, Jake Shulman-Ment, a frequent musical partner.  Daniel writes, “Our collaboration focuses on years of playing together in The Painted Bird as well as the material from my recent solo album and our forthcoming duo album. There is a focus on creative translation into and out of Yiddish and a commitment to a radical approach to traditional Jewish song and dance music.” Originally from Detroit, Kahn now lives in Berlin, which suits his artistic polymath tendencies; Kahn is an actor, poet, playwright, musician, and showman. Poignant and political, historical and contemporary, this is an artist you won’t soon forget. Just watch his interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s "Hallelujah" on YouTube for some context.
