After hearing the Champlain Trio perform last year, we were delighted when they proposed a piano quartet concert with their good friend, the superb violist Milena Pajaro-van de Stadt. Perhaps some of you remember Milena as a founding member of the Dover String Quartet, or from her frequent appearances at the Lake Champlain Chamber Music Festival. She is a rare and generous performer, and her presence with the Champlain Trio will make for an exceptional chamber event. They have chosen an unusual and appealing program for us. The first half focuses on their discovery of two marvelous pieces by women, with the brilliant, early 20th century English composer Alice Verne-Bredt’s Phantasie Trio and 19th century French composer Mélanie Bonis’ Piano Quartet No. 1 in B-flat Major, followed by the epic Piano Quartet in G Minor by Brahms.
