Formed when the members were teenagers studying at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance, the Ariel String Quartet has been together for twenty years. Formerly the resident ensemble of the Professional String Quartet Training Program at the New England Conservatory, these award-winning musicians (the Cleveland Quartet Award, Grand Prize at the 2006 Fischoff, the Székely Prize, and third place at Banff), now are the Quartet in Residence at the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music. They direct CCCM’s chamber music program and present a concert series, in addition to maintaining a busy touring schedule in the United States and abroad, including recent debuts at Carnegie Hall and a series of concerts at Lincoln Center with pianist Inon Barnatan and the Mark Morris Dance Company. Though known for their commitment to performing and recording Beethoven, they are doing something different for us: a program called American Dream which juxtaposes a first half with works by American composers such as Florence Price, Winton Marsalis, and George Walker, with a rousing second half performance of the Dvořák Quartet in F Major, Op. 96, “American.”
