The AFTLS have delighted us with several performances over the last five years, and we are delighted to bring them back with a new production of Midsummer. How can just five actors on a mostly bare stage manage to conjure the magic of Shakespeare’s complex story of love, jealousy, magic, class, and uproarious comedy? Movement, language, clever use of props and, of course, mastery of the material are the key; I promise you will forget you are watching such a minimal production as we willingly suspend our disbelief and use our imaginations (and their skill) to laugh and wonder at four mismatched lovers – Oberon, Titania, Puck, Bottom and his band of “Rude Mechanicals” – and all of their twisted and madcap adventures.
