Enter the information of the other student(s) you want to live with. You can form a roommate group at any point while the housing and meal plan contract is open (February-May, see your admitted student checklist for exact dates).
If you haven’t found a roommate, you can indicate which gender(s) you are seeking for a roommate(s) from the drop-down menu in the housing and meal plan contract. (note: we strongly suggest finding a GIH roommate BEFORE room selection. If you are having trouble, please contact the Prism Center).
You must add each other on your housing and meal plan contracts to be considered GIH roommates in the housing system. If a potential roommate requests you, you will receive an email in your UVM email and will need to go back in your Housing Contract and “Accept” their request.
Students in the Honors College and LASP are required to live in Honors College buildings in UHeights North and South and are required to choose a roommate from within the Honors College.
If you do not want to pick your room, or want to be assigned a roommate, please reach out to University Housing and ask to be assigned to a space with another student in GIH within your Learning Community.
Note: even if you are unable to find a roommate, when it is your time to go through room selection, you will still go through the process as indicated below. You will only be able to see rooms that are available or where other students who have selected Gender Inclusive Housing have already selected a room. If you select an empty space, once you make that selection, only other students who opt into GIH will be able to choose your room during the remainder of the room selection process.
Roommate Gender Identity preferences are used when assigning rooms and determine which students will be able to select your room during room selection. These preferences do not necessarily extend to the suite level and students with specific suite preferences should reach out to University Housing directly.
