Exploring Animal Biodiversity Through Sound

Apr 8, 2024
10:00 am to 10:45 am
Davis Center 400/401 (Grand Maple Ballroom)

Sound enables numerous animals to communicate, even when visual contact is not possible. Across amphibians, insects, birds, and mammals, sound plays a crucial role in various aspects of their lives, including species and individual identification, mate selection, warning of potential threats, and locating prey. In this talk, Assistant Professor Laura J May-Collado from the Department of Biology will delve into how innovative remote acoustic technology enables their lab to investigate the rich tapestry of natural sounds, facilitating the study of entire ecological communities. Additionally, we will explore how animals respond to celestial events like eclipses.

Price: The Eclipse Seminar Series & Keynote Address will be individually ticketed for UVM Students, Faculty, and Staff. Check back in March to see how to claim your tickets!
