Friday, October 23rd 10-11 am
Do you have a question about your teaching or students’ learning that you would like to investigate but are unsure of how to approach the research? Rest assured, you are not alone. Faculty members come to the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) from diverse disciplines with disparate kinds of research training. Therefore, many aspiring SoTL researchers are unfamiliar with the educational research methods that are available to them to help answer their questions about teaching and learning. This session will provide an overview of the most common methodologies both quantitative and qualitative. Anyone interested in learning more about educational research methods that can be used to answer pressing questions about teaching and learning is encouraged to attend.

Friday, October 30th 1-2pm
Navigating the literature in education can be challenging. Educational terminology evolves quickly (e.g., for “standards-based assessment” instead of “proficiency-based assessment”) and different terms are often used to describe similar concepts. Without familiarity with common educational terminology, it can be difficult to identify relevant literature and resources.
This session will provide tips and strategies for effectively navigating educational literature in preparation for a Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL) study. Daisy Benson, Library Instruction Coordinator and Professor, will introduce participants to common educational research databases and search tools that can support the research process. Participants will have dedicated time to search for resources related to their topics of interest, refine their search terms, and identify relevant terminology with guidance from experts in the field.
Register for SoTL Literature Review- Managing SoTL Research with Zotero
Friday, November 6th 1-2pm
Zotero is a supported and recommended software that is desktop and web-based. You and your research team can import documents into a group or individual library, annotate PDFs, and organize with folders for collaboration or individual use. Zotero works with Microsoft Word to generate citations and bibliographies in all standard styles, including APA, Chicago, MLA, AMA, and CSE. Join our workshop with Daisy Benson, Howe Library Research Librarian, to learn how to set Zotero up on your own computer. You will leave the Teams session with a set up account and the knowledge of how to share group resources with your colleagues.
