TA Roundtable: Conducting Office Hours (In-Person Session)
Friday, October 21, 2022 @ 1:30 pm - 2:30 pm
FreeSo, you’ve become a teaching assistant (TA)… now what? Supporting an instructor, program, or department in planning, instructing, or assessing designated course curricula can be complicated. But you’re not alone! Come discuss your experiences as a TA with fellow students working through similar situations. All graduate TAs, graduate teaching assistants (GTAs), and undergraduate TAs are welcome.
This session focuses on strategies for conducting office hours. Office hours are valuable teaching opportunities and allow you a lot of freedom to connect with students. We’ll share stories about our experiences, and learn some strategies and principles to help make office hours even more effective.
RSVPs are appreciated; drop-ins are welcome. Light refreshments provided. Have an idea for a future roundtable topic? Let know!
Looking forward to getting started and have time to read 5 pages? Check out “Standing Room Only Office Hours Strategies,” from Armstrong et al.’s Teaching Gradually: Practical Pedagogy for Graduate Students, by Graduate Students (2021).
**This workshop counts toward the Graduate Teaching Program workshop credit.**
Facilitated by Noah Slowik, WID Graduate Research Assistant
Please reserve this time on your calendar; you will receive a reminder prior to the event. This IN-PERSON discussion will be held in 302 Howe Memorial Library.
