Screencasts are a great way to present course content to students when remote teaching.

In this hands-on workshop, you’ll learn two methods for recording screencasts in Screencast-O-Matic (SOM):

Spontaneous
If you already have slides or content created that you would like to narrate and publish as videos for students, creating an informal spontaneous screencast is a good solution. With options for recording your screen, your webcam, or both, we’ll practice creating unscripted videos with Screencast-O-Matic. We’ll also review options for adding captions to these videos.

Scripted
Following a 4-step process (Plan, Record, Edit, Publish), come learn how to use the Scripted Recording feature of Screencast-O-Matic. This tool follows the best practice of screencast recording by making audio and video tracks separately. And, starting with a script helps to create a professional product. This saves time because it automatically creates accurate closed captions for your video and reduces the need for editing. We’ll practice all these steps in the workshop.
