This workshop looks at how an empathetic social presence supports student learning in remote and online courses.  We’ll look at strategies for creating instructor-student connection, examining the limits of these strategies as well as their possibilities.  With attention to managing instructors’ own boundaries and time, we’ll look at teaching practices and ways of responding to student work that cultivate empathy and rapport.
