Diversity Awareness for More Inclusive Learning Environments
Monday, March 25, 2019 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm
FreeIn this workshop, participants will explore their roles as mentors in classroom and/or laboratory environments through the lens of social identity. Through interactive exercises, participants gain awareness and understanding of student diversity. We will reflect on these discoveries while learning strategies to support diverse identities of students and their mentors.
This workshop is based on the work of The National Mentoring Research Network (NMRN), a nationwide network that provides researchers with evidence-based mentorship and professional development programming. NMRN programs emphasize the benefits and challenges of diversity, inclusivity, and culture within mentoring relationships and the research workforce.
This workshop is open to graduate students, teaching postdocs, faculty and researchers from the University community and is facilitated by Veronica Sosa-Gonzalez, Coordinator for the VT EPSCoR Center for Workforce Development and Diversity.
