Whitney Smith earned a B.S. in Nursing from the University of Vermont in 2007. She earned an M.S.N. from Frontier Nursing University and has been a certified Nurse-midwife since 2014. Whitney joined the UVM Medical Center nurse-midwifery group in 2015 and continues her clinical practice there. She has also practiced midwifery at a freestanding birth center and a reproductive health clinic. Before becoming a certified nurse-midwife, Whitney was a registered nurse in labor and delivery, postpartum, family planning, and lactation at UVM Medical Center and in California.
Whitney was thrilled to return to the University of Vermont in 2023 and join the Department of Nursing faculty. She teaches and provides clinical instruction for undergraduate and graduate courses on the childbearing year and gynecologic care, as well as a Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s Studies course. When not teaching, Whitney enjoys spending time with her loved ones, gardening, herbalism, tending her amateur homestead, crafting, music, and being outdoors.
