Visiting Undergraduate Students

Information for UVM Hosts

Whenever a faculty member or principal investigator wishes to sponsor an undergraduate student (or group of students) enrolled at another institution of higher education to come to UVM for research or other academic purposes, an application process is required.

The application can be found here. [UVM Login Required]

The application form must be filled out by a UVM employee (sponsoring faculty/staff or designee), not by the visiting student. (A copy of the application questions can be found here.)

Planning ahead is important, as there are several steps to the approval process. It is recommended that sponsors submit the application form as early as possible (depending on the activities). If a visiting undergraduate will be in a lab that handles hazardous materials, the process should be started 3-6 months prior to the anticipated arrival of the visiting undergraduate student. If the visiting undergraduate is observing in a non-hazardous area, 2-3 months should be sufficient time.

Detailed information about eligibility requirements, application instructions, and an overview of the application process can be found here.

  • Sponsors who have more questions about the process should contact [vus@uvm.edu]

Information for Prospective Visiting Undergraduate Students

Non-UVM undergraduate students who are interested in visiting a scholar or researcher at UVM should reach out to that person directly. If you need help identifying the best UVM resource, you can contact [VUS@uvm.edu] or [VPAASS@uvm.edu] for assistance.
