I study and teach about media, culture, and society. In both my research and my teaching I tend to emphasize that things do not have to be the way they are, that institutions are made, and that we -- society -- have made them that way, that they are socially constructed. Most of my research is about the laws and policies that help make the media the way they are; I've published two books and some articles on the topic. I've also published a book of essays on the internet and Howard Dean's presidential campaign. I've been living Burlington and teaching at the University of Vermont since 1989; I've also taught at various times at the University of Wisconsin and the School of Cinema/Television at the University of Southern California. More information about me can be found on my web page at http://www.uvm.edu/~tstreete.
