Recycling & Waste Management

"One Less Cup" Discount Campaign
Since January 2007, University Dining Services has instituted a generous discount on all refills of coffee and fountain soda on campus. All refills are priced as a "small" drink when you bring your own refillable, reusable, durable mug or cup, regardless of size. (No, this does not mean you can refill a paper cup or a huge Thermos for the discounted price). The intent of the discount is to encourage students, staff and faculty to bring their own cup.
The UVM Recycling program and the UVM Eco-Reps program give out nifty "One Less Cup" decals to decorate your travel mug. If you'd like a decal, write to us at recycle@uvm.edu with your on-campus mailing address and we will send you one....or visit one of the Davis Center Information Desks and ask for a decal.
"One Less Bottle" Campaign
UVM Recycling has distributed over 3,000 decals on campus for students and staff to "decorate" their own refillable water bottles. If you'd like a decal, write to us at recycle@uvm.edu with your on-campus mailing address and we will send you one....or visit one of the Davis Center Information Desks to get one.
In2008, all the
drinking fountains in the Davis Center were retrofit with spouts to
enable easier refilling of water bottles. This idea was suggested by
Paul in the building maintenance services operation. Great idea Paul!
In Spring 2007, students in
Jane Petrillo’s CDAE 231: Applied
Computer Graphics class were
asked to make posters
to help raise awareness about the environmental
impact of plastic water bottles, and
to encourage the use of refillable water bottles.
Here are some of the final designs (in .PDF format) we selected to post
in the residence
